Buzznet snaps up Idolator music blog
Denver -- Music-based sociable electronic network Buzznet is buying music blog
Idolator. Buzznet of late acquired euphony blog Stereogum, making
Idolator the second such acquisition since it secured $25 million
in freshly support, reportedly contributed in division by Universal Music
Group's Interscope Records.
Idolator is portion of
the Gawker meshwork of blogs, and its sale is part of a broader
divestiture that includes two other Gawker properties --
travel-focused Gridskipper and the Wonkette political blog.
In a memorandum leaking the news to the web log Valleywag, Gawker chief Nick
Denton said aggregating a salmagundi of music blogs in one blank space
stands a better chance of drawing advertizer attention than the
stream fragmented environment.
"Euphony audiences ar fragmented across writing style," he said. "Idolator
gave Stereogum a good unravel, simply a mathematical group with a unit array of music
sites will command more attention from record labels than we
could."
